Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines essential terms, conditions, insurance information, associated charges, and your obligations during the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Requirements Overview
- To hire a vehicle from Ripley, you must be at least 21 years old, although certain vehicle types may impose different age restrictions, including potential extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of current address. Valid payment details and a security deposit are also necessary, as well as any other conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Dartford office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT when applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through established payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collection of your vehicle, it is imperative to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage right away. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and signed at this time. The vehicle should be returned in the same condition it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Ensure that the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as it had at pick-up; otherwise, refueling charges will be applied. Late returns may result in additional fees, so please contact us promptly if you expect to return the vehicle later than scheduled. You will be liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges incurred during the rental, in addition to an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals from Ripley include basic third-party insurance. Comprehensive coverage information and excess amounts can be found in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to limit your financial responsibility. It is beneficial to review these options thoroughly. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless further coverage is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Please be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of the Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for illegal activities or purposes. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or any other dangerous driving. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Users should not exceed passenger or weight limits, nor drive outside the agreed geographical areas without prior authorization.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Ripley Car Hire disclaims any liability for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the prior 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or for fraud.

These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be addressed exclusively in English and Welsh courts.

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon their posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
